Welcome to Ms. Wright's Class!

I am excited for a fun filled and productive year! I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and your child throughout the school year. As a team, we can work together to ensure that your child is on a path to academic success.

Third Grade is a very busy year filled with lots of fun and exciting learning opportunities. We will be learning how to write paragraphs, cursive handwriting, multiplication, division, fractions, and so much more! There is a BIG bump in curriculum and expectations for students in Third Grade. The students will be reading to learn instead of learning to read and increasing their independence. This year will be the first year of state testing, which will take place around March/April.

It is so important to keep a strong line of communication between home and school. I am always available to talk about any questions, comments, or concerns. The more we are in touch and work as a team regarding your child, the better.

SCHOOL DAY

The school day begins at 8:15am and is dismissed at 2:00pm. Your child is expected to be in their seat, ready to learn no later than 8:15am, or they will be need a tardy slip from the office. All students who arrive before 8:00am will head straight to the cafeteria where breakfast is served from 7:45-8:00am. Students can play on the playground from 8:00-8:12am. The first bell rings at 8:12am, students will grab their homework folder, lunch, water and line up!

BEHAVIOR POLICY

As a teacher, my role is to teach your student(s). I LOVE that role! I want our classroom to be a place of learning, and I strive to make sure all students in my classroom have an opportunity to learn. In order to create a classroom environment conducive to learning, it is imperative that our classroom management program is in place and supported by parents at home.

Every time a classroom expectation/rule is broken, a consequence is given. Our classroom consequences are as follows:

  1. Redirect (a verbal warning)
  2. Side Line (break in a specific area in classroom)
  3. Think Break (in another room & fill out a think sheet)
  4. Letter Home (letter to parent that must be signed & returned next day)** If behavior continues, an after school detention will be given
Please encourage your child to make good choices each day.  Remind them of the importance of following the rules, respecting their peers and teacher, and working hard. Reinforcement at home plays a crucial role in helping your child develop good habits in this area.

HOMEWORK POLICY
Homework is an important tool that reinforces skills taught in the classroom. The purpose of homework is to extend concepts, teach responsibility, and help students to develop good study habits. Your child will have homework Monday – Thursday that will include ELA and Math homework. Remember in grades K-2 they are learning to read, in 3rd grade they are reading to LEARN!

Third graders are expected to read twenty minutes daily to keep up with their oral reading fluency which will transfer to summarizing characters development, plot, setting, etc. Reading will need to be logged in their agenda with the name of the book they read. Agendas also need to be signed each night by the parent/guardian. This tells me that you reviewed your child’s homework and if anything is incomplete or missing, I will write a note on the bottom of the agenda.

If a student does not complete their homework assignments, the work will be marked as late. The incomplete homework will still need to be completed. If a student is absent, their makeup work will be set aside to complete at home. Students will have the same number of days to make up their work as the number of days they were absent.

MUSIC & ART
We have the privilege of having music and art classes! Third graders will be learning how to play the recorder all year. Music will be weekly and art classes will be weekly for 9-10 sessions. I will inform you of any recitals or important events!

Many families kindly ask how they can support our classroom. If you’re interested in contributing, feel free to check out our wish list by scanning the QR code below. We will need to replenish supplies throughout the school year and I will reach out and ask for donations. There’s absolutely no pressure—your support in any form is always appreciated!
